Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this payroll administrator is primarily responsible for the processing payroll for various hourly and salaried groups.  This includes timely and accurate processing and transmission of payroll data, maintenance of payroll files and providing customer service to internal and external customers.

Payroll Specialist

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Understand and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures;
  • Protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential and maintaining employee records;
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages;
  • Accountable for entering new or existing employee information, benefit information, additional/recurring payments, deductions and employee changes and maintaining accuracy of personnel and payroll records;
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and various external agencies;
  • Processing payrol for salaried and hourly employees;
  • Remaining current on all legislation and tax compliance;
  • File payroll department documents;
  • Ensure ROE’s are completed for any departing employees;
  • Responsible for administering T4’s at the beginning of each year;
  • Esnuring employees are promptly enrolled and maintained in a applicable benefits and pension plans and prepare and reconcile monthly payments for benefit accounts;
  • Issuing employee letters such as WCB clearance and employment verification;
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism;
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft office products with primary focus on Excel and working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now;
  • Exceptional flexibility with proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines;
  • Excellent oral, written and communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate data entry of payroll information;
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships and working effectively with colleagues;
  • Extraordinary commitment to maintain confidentiality.

Educations, Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

A PCP designation and/or working towards a Payroll designation with the CPA;


  • Minimum of one to three (1-3) years’ experience directly related to payroll;
  • Current knowledge of human resources, payroll and benefit procedures with an aptitude to learn;
  • Knowledge of multi-provincial payroll is an asset;
  • Preference will be given knowledge of ADP Workforce Now.
