Reporting to the Payroll and Human Resources Manager, this payroll specialist is primarily responsible for the processing and audit of payroll for various hourly and salaried groups.  This includes timely and accurate processing and transmission of payroll data for the associates, maintenance of payroll files and correspondence with internal and external stakeholders on payroll inquires.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Understand and adhere to the company’s policies and procedures,     furthermore understand and adhere to any client’s policies and procedures;
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Accountable for entering new or existing employee information, benefit information, additional/recurring payments, deductions and employee changes (changes in RRSP, tax deductions, titles, transfers etc.) into ADP;
  • Develop and maintain professional and successful internal relationships with Manager, Supervisors, and employees, including collaborating with other departments to maintain accuracy of personnel/pay records;
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees and various external agencies;
  • Responsible for exporting data and importing it into our payroll system;
  • Completing month end labour accrual calculations and entries;
  • Processing payroll;
  • Reconcile payroll per payment period;
  • Completing Payroll Journal Entries;
  • Remaining current on all legislation and tax compliance;
  • File payroll department documents;
  • Responsible for previewing, processing and starting a new payroll cycle in ADP;
  • Ensure ROE’s are completed for any departing employees;
  • Responsible for administering T4’s at the beginning of each year;
  • Any other duties that management may require;
  • Technical configuration of a payroll system i.e. submitting, creating and changing payroll codes;
  • Providing input on improving payroll processes
  • Prepare payroll reports and run analyses when required.
  • Any other duties as per management.

Knowledge and Skills:

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Frequent sitting, bending, twisting and standing;
Walk up and down 25 stairs as there is no elevator in the building.

Educations, Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

A PCP designation and/or working towards a Payroll Management designation with the CPA;


  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years’ experience directly related to payroll;
  • Experience with Alberta Oil Servicing Agreement will be considered an asset;
  • Experience with payroll audits;
  • Good knowledge of accounting, general ledger, journal entries, and bookkeeping;
  • Preference will be given knowledge of ADP software;
