Description:

Position Purpose:  Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will provide exceptional customer service to internal clients, track, process and reconcile payroll data as well as processing A/P and A/R and fullcycle accounting duties.  Provide assistance in other areas of accounting as required and in support of the firm’s strategic plan.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Process employee payroll fpr 100 employees on a bi-weekly basis (3 payrolls/month - two salaried and one hourly)
  • Create Journal Entries bi-weekly to record payroll and accounting information
  • Maintain, reconcile and create Journal Entries on a monthly basis for vacation time, banked time, overtime and sick time spreadsheets.
  • Review and post corporate timesheets on a weekly basis
  • Manage entire process of Group  RRSP plan
  • Maintain and reconcile monthly Group Benefits
  • Request WCB clearance letters as requested from Project Managers as well as file annual WCB and WCB reconciliations
  • Maintain employee records such as tax exemptions, transfers and resignations to maintain and update payroll records
  • Stay informed about changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process
  • Be a resource to employees and managers on payroll matters and tax issues
  • Complete, verify and process forms and documentation for unemployment insurance (ROE), issuing T4's
  • Prepare and balance month and year-end reports and reconcile issued payrolls to bank statements
  • Compile statistical reports, statements and summaries related to pay and benefits accounts and submit them to appropriate departments as required
  • Provide acounting assistance with monthly processing of Accounts Receivable including invoices, receipts, prime contract change orders, reconciling prime contract to billing sheets and labour charge out rates.
  • Day-to-day processing of accounts payable transacations to ensure that finances are maintained
  • Reconciliation of vendor Accounts
  • Monthly calcuation of accrued costs, completions of journal entries, timely completion of GST reconciliation and remittance and Bank reconciliations
Employees are required to adhere to the company and client safety policies and practices in effect at any given time.
Qualifications:
  • Certificate or Diploma in Payroll, Accounting or related field.
  • 2+ years experience in payroll  and 2 - 3 years of accounting exp.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Sound understanding of tax and deduction laws, PIPA, PIPEDA and Employment Standards related to payroll
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting fundamentals including A/P, A/R, bank and account reconciliation and journal entries
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style
  • Understand the varying levels of confidentiality required in payroll and act accordingly
  • Able to function under pressure, and demonstrate discretion, integrity, fair-mindedness
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication
  • Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple priorities, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the company to the staff, clients and community by ensuring the best image is presented.
  • Application knowledge of Viewpoint software is an asset as well as strong Excel skills
