Position Purpose:  Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will provide exceptional customer service to internal clients by tracking, processing, analyzing and reconciling payroll and accounting data.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Process employee payroll for 1100 fulltime and casual employees
  • Create journal entries bi-weekly to record payroll and accounting information,  accruals and monthly reconciliations on related GL accounts
  • Maintain, reconcile and create journal entries on a monthly basis for payroll including vacation time, banked time, overtime and sick time and providing analysis of information for management
  • Provide internal customer service in a multi-site environment by liaising with employees and their supervisors for matters related to their pay
  • Put solutions in place for identified gaps and errors through a resourceful approach to proactive problem solving
  • Maintain employee records such as tax exemptions, transfers and resignations to maintain and update payroll records
  • Stay informed about changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process
  • Be a resource to employees and managers on payroll matters and tax issues 
  • Prepare and balance month and year-end reports and reconcile issued payrolls to bank statements
  • Compile statistical reports, statements and summaries related to pay and benefits accounts and submit them to appropriate departments as required
  • Monthly calcuation of accrued costs, completions of journal entries, timely completion of GST reconciliation and remittance and Bank reconciliations
  • Have the ability to supervise a small payroll department of administrators
Employees are required to adhere to the company and client safety policies and practices in effect at any given time.
  • Previous experience with ADP Workforce Now would be a huge asset 
  • 5+ years experience in payroll and accounting with significant  knowledge of reconciliation, journal entries, accruals and report writing with the ability to analyze and problem solve issues
  • University degree or acceptable education and experience
  • ADVANCED EXCEL skills including pivot tables and V-Look-ups
  • Must have a vehicle as there is no bus service to this job location

Skills and Competencies:

  • Sound understanding of tax and deduction laws, PIPA, PIPEDA and Employment Standards related to payroll
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; a person who listens well, respects diversity of opinions and has an open, clear and succinct communication style
  • Understand the varying levels of confidentiality required in payroll and act accordingly
  • Able to function under pressure, and demonstrate discretion, integrity, fair-mindedness
  • Proficient in verbal and written communication
  • Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple priorities, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the company to the staff, clients and community by ensuring the best image is presented.
