Description:

Working in an established Funeral Home business in Edmonton, the Accounting Manager/Controller is responsible for the full-cycle accounting including Financial Statement preparation and analysis, financial reporting, managing trust funds, budget preparation and payroll.

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  1. Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements and analysis
  2. Ensure data integrity of all financial reporting
  3. Posting of related journal entries into a computerized accounting system
  4. Prepare and maintain annual operation budgets
  5. Ensure that the GL, bank statements, payroll summaries are reconciled and maintained
  6. Establish and maintain cash controls, issuing cheques for all accounts due and monitors bank balances
  7. Process Accounts Payable, monitor Accounts Receivables and maintain collections process for outstanding debts
  8. Review of sales reports, credit card processing and reconciliation
  9. Calculate employees salaries, deductions and contributions for 60 employees, preparing semi-monthly payroll using ADP
  10. Preparation and issue of T4's, T4A's and prepare WCB reports
  11. Ensure government payments including source deductions are accurate and timely
  12. Responsible for the banking and investing of pre-arranged funeral payments and managing the trust funds for integrity and compliance
  13. Reconciliation of the trust funds to the trust liabilities
  14. Supervises junior staff
  15. Other general accounting duties
Qualifications:
  1. Minimum of 8 years of full-cycle accounting experience in a mid to senior level accounting position in a privately-held company (an accounting designation would be an asset)
  2. Extensive experience and knowledge of financial statement preparation and reporting, accounts payable/receivable, payroll and benefits and accounting principles
  3. Intermediate proficiency with MS Office (Word and Excel) and accounting software
  4. Demonstrates a strong work ethic, integrity, honesty and leadership skills
  5. Signficant attention to detail, proven accuracy and maintaining integrity of numbers
  6. Possess a valid Alberta driver's license, willing to undergo a criminal record check
  7. Must speak, read and write English fluently
